NY Times: Casinos Warming Up to Online Poker

A recent article in the New York Times suggests that U.S. casinos are warming up to the idea of legalized online poker. The American Gaming Association, a trade group that represents major casino corporations, is working to draft a proposal that would ask Congress to legalize some form of online poker. It is likely that the casinos in question have some interest in branching out into the online gaming sector and need legal clearway to do so. The article states that Harrah’s Entertainment, owners and operators of the World Series of Poker, have been investing in software companies associated with online gaming.

These efforts are unlikely to result in any immediate turn-around for the legal status of online poker in the U.S., but they do represent a small step in the right direction.
