How did I get so far in the tournament running like this?!

Obviously I'm just pissed off. I just busted in 400 something in the $370 WSOP qualifier on PS. I don't care if I could only win $W, I have such a hardon for the structure I had to play.

I was card dead all day, I think in addition to the hands below I only won like 2 preflop all-ins, both with a dominating hand.

I honestly don't know how I can get so late into a tournament running so bad. Note for the hand I go out on - I had been pushing like crazy up to this point to rebulid because I'd been so card dead.

Hand 1: Note the excellent (well, decent if standard) fold. I guess this is part of why I survived so long.

As I said, in hand 4 I had been pushing a lot trying to recover. I had actually chipped up a little and wasn't less than 50% of average by this time, however, I can't do anything but push QQ here since I'd been so aggressive, and I still needed a good # of chips to ensure myself a seat. Open-raising less actually would have appeared stronger, and I wanted a double up. Of course someone has AA on the same hand, though. LOL!

Normally I run ok in touraments, but today I played super well and ran pretty bad and got fisted in the end by PokerStars. I guess I should be proud of the fact that I managed to get as far as I did running poorly, but I still maintain no amount of skill can overcome luck, if the luck is strong enough one way or the other.

Oh well. Could be worse - I could have run into set over set for huge pots today... oh wait, that happened too! Damn. I guess nothing in my poker life is ever going to go right.

I'm not sure why you are so upset at the hands you are showing. Seems like normal sh1t to me. I can post some of mine if you like.

Uhh... that's the point. I managed to make it really deep without winning almost any showdowns, to lose QQ vs AA.

There were no spectacular bad beats - it was all 'standard', but the point is that usually when the standard hands go against you, you lose. Here, all the standard stuff was going against me and I was still managing to hang in by chopping at pots, but in the end still couldn't get a single damn break.

Looking at those hands in isolation is meaningless. That wasn't the point. If you want 'complaints' of that type, i posted a sick set over set hand elsewhere that should do the trick.

I understand what you are saying in the context of bad beats in one tournament, but that kind of stuff happens on a regular basis. I guess you just need to vent more than most as a sort of relief-valve?

TWLLM Jun 18, 2007 4:40pm

I play for 6 hours, having won 2 showdowns the whole tournament (both with dominant hands) and losing every other necessary gamble, surviving by stealing and having no cards...

I finally get QQ and bust out against AA when 50% of the remaining field wins $11k.

And you wonder why I'm pissed?

I don't know if this is exceptionally vent-ish for anyone, even me - seems pretty freaking sick to make it that far with nothing going right, to then be fisted having finally found a real hand.

It's not sick at all. It's so standard it makes standards look like (insert your favorite freak picture here). I feel like almost every tournament is like that.

Maybe you're right it's standard, but usually to get to the top 400 of 5000+ people you have to win a pot bigger than the blinds or the blinds+a raise.

Yes, you're right that the 'finally pick up a hand and die' is standard, although I can't complain too much about this happening when I play tournaments, since I've run perfectly well in tournaments overall. Just frustrating how it went down this particular time.
