table talk

hi.

What are the rules regarding table talk during a live cash game? Are they different than tournaments? Are you allowed to ask opponents questions like "Do you have a six?" while a hand is in play?

It varies based on the room you are in. But generally you can't discuss the hand unless it's heads up.

Thanks dude. So if it's heads up you can ask stupid questions like " do you have a six? " etc. as some people do at this particular place.

Yeah, honestly. Does anyone like that guy? Even if the idiot answers you, are you some kind of read master to know if he has the six or not?

I don't think it's him having a six so much as how he reacts to your question, so you can pick up a read theoretically.

Better to say something that will trigger un-surpressable emotions, like something genuinely funny, or point to something in the room, or spill your drink. If the guy laughs last / doesn't look at it / has no response he is in stress and surpressing emotions actively.

You can only do this once in a while but spilling your drink for a read in a 10k pot can be worth it.

But aside from knowing the guy is playing, do you learn much else? Granted, knowing he is playing is useful info in and of itself.
