Default Trip to Vegas 2015

Ok so I have been away from this forum for a long time now mainly due to increased work commitments and the fact we now have a little one running about. As such my free time for poker has deteriorated to just a rad above zero.

Anyway I am planning to go to Vegas around summertime 2015 I am popping back here for a little advice. I want to make the trip as reasonably priced as possible whisky making sure we capture the true essence of Vegas. I will be flying from the uk and looking to stay for 4 nights somewhere on the strip I am looking to go at somepoint just before, during or after summer time. Any advice as to the best time to book my visit for and possible venues would be hugely appreciated.

I have been to Vegas once before, two years ago and we paid about £750 to stay at planet Hollywood for 4 nights in late October time. This was pretty much what we were looking for at that time, this time however we need to go nearer summer time sometime between April and August probably.

Thanks in advance

The last few times I've been to Vegas, I stayed at the Flamingo. They've redone all their rooms and for the price, it's a great value. Keep in mind pretty much all of the hotels now charge a "resort fee" of about $15 a day or so depending on where. The flamingo is pretty much dead center of the strip which is handy.

Most likely, you are going to want to play poker at the Aria - they have good comps and good games going all the time. Hell, you can get fresh squeezed watermelon juice every time a waitress takes drink orders. They also usually have PLO going if that's your thing.

As for when to book. I have no idea, I suppose you could sign up for Total Rewards and M-Life and see if they send you discounted rooms and line that up with good airfare.

If you can drive in the states, I highly recomend renting a car. It's very easy to get around Vegas (just stay off the strip because of traffic). Parking is free everywhere and the cabs are expensive. Just going to and from the airport with a cab is $50 US and car rental isn't much more than $20 a day. It's pretty convenient picking up and dropping off a the car too. Plus you could see all the stuff off the strip - which there is a lot of.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

4 days isn't enough if you're flying in from overseas and also accommodation is much cheaper now. Also, +1 to the Aria poker room being awesome.

I know it's not really long enough but it's been the trend recently with the group of friends that we go away for 4 days, it usually works out at nearer 5 days with the flight times but it's all us married family guys can really get away with these days.

I never went to the Aria the last time I was in Vegas so I'll be sure to give it a look.

Any other feedback would be appreciated guys.

Oh I'll be playing no limit holdem cash games @$1/$2 and whatever tournaments are available during my visit.

For tournaments, most of the lower stakes ones (<$100) have awful structure and high rake. I recall Treasure Island used to have a good $125 bounty tournament with decent structure.

I think the Aria's game is $1-3 not $1-2, but it plays pretty much the same.

www.allvegaspoker.com has all sorts of reviews of the different poker rooms and what they offer.

Don't know if you listen to podcasts but for a fun "Man's Guide to Vegas" look up the Betting Dork in the iTunes store.

It was posted around the Super Bowl and after they discuss Super Bowl parties they get into what's what in Vegas from a guys perspective. Very informative and a lot of laughs too

Cheers Darryl, I'll give that site a look, I think I checked it out the last time I went to Vegas but I'd forgotten about it
