Default Was this a good play?

I was playing in an online 2-4 holdem 6-player table last night and was dealt Ad-9d. The first two players limp, and the next two fold. I am in the small blind. Noting that the three opponents to my left had played fairly loose for the last 20 minutes or so, I decide to raise. To my chagrin, BB reraises! The limpers both fold. Since the pot is already up to $14, I decide to take a shot with my hand and I call.

The flop comes 10d-6h-Qh. I check and BB bets. OK, I either need the back door flush or the ace (and then my opponent has to not have an ace, or reraised with a smaller ace than mine!) The pot is at $18, so I'm getting 9:1 to call. Again, it's probably preferable to fold, but my opponent has been pretty loose, so he might reraise with less than others. I call.

The turn is the Qd. So now I have the nut flush draw plus the ace, and there are two queens on the board. I do not figure my opponent for a queen, since I guess it's more likely that he has AA, KK, or AK. So I check, he bets, and I check-raise.

Is trying this semi-bluff check raise here a good play, or had I lost my mind? Should I just have bet out? I figured I could make the check-raise because my opponent was aggressive and would not fail to bet.

Anyway, BB folded, and I took the $23 pot!

I think you did brilliantly. You took the pot and at that time you had absolutely nothing! If you hadn't played as agressively and it went to river you could have quite easily not made a hand in which case his pair or whatever he folded would hold up. You brought the pot down when you were probably in 2nd place - great play If you'd made a full-house and didn't let him develop then fair enough you should be shot but I think you played correctly.

P.S. I wouldn't have had the guts to re-raise at that stage!

I think it was a good play b/c you represented the queen well.

If you want to bluff, you generally need to 'represent' something to win.

I am suprised he did not call though with that much money in the pot (in case he is really that loose)...he must have had next to nothing.

He tried to shove you off the money, you refused to let him. Well done - you won the pot (more than likely with the better hand, from my reading of it) and he won't be in a hurry to do that again.

From what I have read here, you made a wise and well played choice. It is really hard to tell you what was the right move in this situation, because there are so many factors to think about. You obviously for this particular hand made the right choice with your semi-bluff reraise. Now that I think about it, since he laid down the hand so quickly after you reraised you were either right about him having the Big Slick, or I actually figure him on an under-pair such as Pocket T's but that pocket pair could have been much smaller depending on how agressive this guy is. Just my $0.02 Nice play.
