Does anyone know some good sites to get information on games/teams.

So far ive found covers.com, cbssportsline, espn, vegas insider.

Ive done my betting thru sportsbook.com seems ok havent cashed out yet. They also have a black jack and a few other games you can play with you bankroll which was neat.

Thanks,

MRV

I used betonsports.com last year and didn't have any problems. Cashed out a few times just fine.

As far as the research, I found some good picks on about.com and even in some yahoo groups.

Haven't decided how much football gambling I'll do online this year. Online poker and fantasy football seem to be enough that I need to be one the gamblers anonymous mailing list

Ummm...could you be a little more specific. There's no real tricks to sports gambling, do you want to discuss picks or something?

No, not picks or anything, but about how it works. I know that they move the lines in order to balance their books to ensure a profit no matter who wins the game. But do they move the line in a particular direction in order to gain more profit according to who they actually think will win?
Also, what does some of the lingo mean and how does it affect the payout of the placed bets?

Example (bodog.com):

.....................MoneyLine......Spread........ ..Total........Final
Denver...........-3(even).........-145..........38(-105o)......6
Jacksonville....+3(-120).........+125.........38(-115u)......7

According to the site, u can bet on the line, spread, or total. What do the numbers mean?

I grew up around sports betting. When I got my license, even before the legal gambling age, I would go to the track with 10k and a cell phone. A family member of mine would call and I'd place bets. Often I would come home with more then I entered with. One of my close family member's is one of the best gamblers I've ever know personally. I'm not saying there's no substitute for good research but there are tricks to sports betting. The person I'm referring to usually didn't even watch the football games and hardly looked at any research. Still he made lots of money. I hardly bet on sports but below am a couple things I learned when I was younger. It might be something you can add to your own research.

1. There are really smart football handicappers out there and you should look to see when they move. Try to pipe into as many big real time lines as possible. Look for variances in the line. If you see a big move in a line, because of a big bet, and it agrees with your research then look for which line is giving you the best odds and bet it.

2. If you see wide variances between lines look to capitialize on the spread between them.

3. If you go to the track pick up something call 'The Sheets.'

Good tips manutdfan1. When i go to the track I sit in general admission, i try and find a seat among the track "locals" and just listen....

MRV's free monday night pick-- Eagles -3 over Vikings

The Eagle defense can stop the Viking offense more times than the Viking defense can stop the Eagle offense.

Hustlr, the sportsbook doesn't necessarily always make money. While most take 10% if you win, if everyone is betting on a certain team against the spread and they win, the sportsbook is going to lose money.

The -145 on Denver indicates that Denver has to win the game, and that you would have to bet $145 to win $100. The +125 of Jacksonville means that if you bet $100, you would win $125 if Jacksonville won the game outright.
