Default Pot Odds Poll

When calculating Pot Odds, do you use percentages, or odds (ex.7-1against)

You can create a poll for this.

Personally, I think percentages are much easier. All that 7-1 stuff makes my head hurt.

I use percentages and my handy, dandy pocket calculator by my side. I wonder if they allow pocket calculators at live games? Wait a minute, this might be a tell at live games -- or maybe a great way to bluff being on a draw! Lol, only joking around. Even now I do over half the calculating in my head, though at the low limits, sometimes dealing with less than whole numbers becomes a headache. Though I hope after time and experience I will be able to no longer need the pocket calculator.

However, there is a related discussion about this in the Poker Stories section. The "did I compute pot odds correctly" topic.

I found an amazing way to get fairly accurate results for calculating pot odds. with 1 card to come, (or to see 1 more card) times your outs by 2 and add 2. This will give you the percentage of catching ur draw.

Example: flush draw on turn, 1 card to come. You have 9 outs.

9x2+2= 20%

or open straight draw (8 outs)

8x2+2= 18%

its not perfect but it works for me.

I prefer odds.

16% vs. 1/6? 1/6 wins every time.

Yeah, the strategy section on this site mentions this formula. However, I believe conventional wisdom has it that we add 1.

From the "Poker Strategy - Pot Odds" article:

>> To calculate your percentage of hitting an out on the next card, you take the # of outs times 2, then add 1. In the above situation with 8 outs, you have roughly a 17% chance of drawing successfully. <<

****EDIT: I also think that with less than 5 outs, it is more precise to simply multiply by 2. (and for the sticklers out there, add .5 to 3 outs and 4 outs).
