Default Brutal session

Vent post.

Just finished the worst session I've ever played. Down 7 buy ins.

I had 5 sets total in the session - 4 ran into higher sets and 1 ran into a straight. I was hitting sets at an above average average rate - I've never seen set over set with that frequency before.

KK twice, once beaten by AA and once by QQ. Also an AA<JJ hand.

Wasn't on the good side of a big pot once.

OK, I feel a little better. I just hate that it could take half a month to recover from a few hours of bad luck. Oh well...

I had a 8 buy-in downswing session earlier last month and it was absolutely brutal. Take some time off if you need (you are pretty solid so I do not think you need to), and enjoy something else if you like.

I think youre a bit too much perseverent... I pretty much stop playing when I lose 4 buyins, sometimes even less. The tables are better be extremely good for me to continue after losing so much.

Thanks guys. I reviewed the HH's and there is only one spot (the KK<QQ) where I could have reasonably gotten away from anything. It was against a solid player I have a couple thousand hands with and I should have concluded that my overpair was no good - but that wasn't even a full buyin pot. So, I'm comfortable with my play - shouldn't affect me and I'll probably jump back on the horse tonight.

I agree with you Gus, though, that some form of stop loss might be a good idea. The tables were average (1-2 fish each) but not great. Do you usually start right back the next day after a bad session?

Well I dont really use any amount of money as a stop loss. Its more of a annoyed meter if you know what I mean... Like I can only lose one buyin and stop because all my Cbets get called and all my value bets dont get action for example.
I can lose a lot of money and not get annoyed at all, but get a pretty disgusting break even session and begin to feel that tilt is not so far ahead.

2h is all I need to start again and play my A game tho.

I agree, the only reason I finished playing that night was because the table was so juicy. I had AK all-in preflop against AJ for crying out loud. The guy had $6500 or so in front of him. Think I am leaving that table?

Wow 7 buy in's? I quit for the day when I lose 3/4 buy ins because I start playing badly.

Just out of interest what stakes do you play?
