I don't think its bad to check raise the flop. You don't have to lead every set and if you just get called you have a harder time to get it all in and you might have three callers chasing every dumb draw. I would check raise more and shove the turn.

Besides, my favorite play here is to check the flop, watch everyone check behind and then donkey shove the turn when the 8 of diamonds falls. Getting basically all your money in behind and trying to suck out is much more fun.

Seriously, that river check is pretty strange.

Those were some of my thoughts for making the c/r. The river check made me cuss the second I did it.

it's not tough to get allin when you get called cause the post is already huge due to being 4way

and then it would be wonderful to get 3 callers, you make it sound like it's a bad thing

agree with the rest of your post though

on a monotone board 4way I am just c/calling and treating it as a full house draw, unless the flop checks through. Except if you have some uber donks at the table, then go ahead and donk pot the flop.

remember that your aim is not to get all in, your aim is to get maximum value.

you're going to build a bigger pot more often by leading with the set than you are by checkraising with it. like the poem says;

any time that you flop a set,
you generally want to lead out and bet.
if you checkraise you might let,
him get away cheap which would fucking suck.

very occasionally you're going to want to checkraise sets to help your opponents be confused, but this is better used against a reg in a heads up pot where he can easily get it into his head that you're drawing or making a move or decide his tptk is good. against 3 players, just lead.
