Not a huge fan of this reasoning. I think pot control is the order of the day, keep this one small. Attacking this pot is high variance and low return even though you are probably just about getting the best of it maybe.

Calling down is probably better EV, your opponent sounds like he likes to have control of the action and make moves, he may well bet all 3 streets with his entire range if you don't play back at him, thinking that you have some kind of weak draw or bad pair. when you play back at him, it narrows the range he'll push with to genuine hands that beat you and solid draws that have good equity.
