Default bad beat payout at casino

hey all,
i am new here, and new to playing in the casino. i play home games quite often and went to the casino the first time this week. just sat at the 5-10 table for a while to see what it was like. i enjoyed it, came out a little ahead. they had something called a bad beat where if you beat 10's full of aces you win the bad beat pot. im not sure how this works. here was the situation that confused me. I was heads up with another guy

hole cards - A,6
his cards - 10, 10
table cards - A,A,10-A-8

i was told i didnt get the bad beat hand because my 6 got beat. is this right?

nice forum by the way. i know i will learn alot, and hopefully be able to teach some things in the future.

Pretty sure the guy facing you should've won it. The bad beat pot is for the player that gets beat in those types of hands not for the player that wins. How big was the pot for this hand?

it was only around 150 or so.

the bad beat pot didnt get paid out though. the others at the table said that my kicker came into play and wasnt high enough. thats where i got confused. i thought that since i beat him, the pot would pay out.

they also told me that the loser gets the pot, you are correct. but the winner gets a chunk of it and so do all the players at that table.

Some places have a requirement that both of your hole cards are used.

Technically, your hand was AAAAT, so your 6 wasn't used. That may have been why you didn't win it.

Out of the many games I've played, I've yet to win a bad beat or any promo like that

Sorry I can't help you on this question. Though I would like to know about the poker scene at Harrahs. Are there plenty of poker tables? What is the mix of tabels like? Are there 5-10 shorthand games? I'm from Chicago and untill know I've only heard of Harrah's and Hollwood casino offering poker. Thanks!

there are 5-10 tables, but not shorthanded. they usually have one main 5-10 that stays full and one rotating table. as soon as someone leaves the main table, they move someone from the other. they have other limits as well, not sure about them though. i have only hit the 5-10. shoot me an email if you want any more info and i will try to answer your questions. i wont be able to make it to the board to often for a while.

From what I've have heard the casino where I play at is one of the hardest bad beat jackpots in the country to hit. The rules are as follows:
Aces Full of Tens or better being beaten by Four of a Kind or better Both hole cards have to be used by both players involved. Another reason why it is hard is you do not qualify for the jackpot if your hole cards are say Pocket Tens and the flop comes AAA Turn is K River is K, and someone else has pocket kings. Our jackpot usually hovers around $50,000 on average but has been known to get up into the 6 digit range. I play at the Canterbury Card Club in Minneapolis MN.
