Default WSOP Question

Just out of curiosity...

How many chips does each player start with at the WSOP Main event? Is it 10,000, just like the buy-in?

Can someone please explain me something.

What is the difference between the recently finished WPT (isn't that the name?) where the Swede Martin "Kniven" Deknjiif won and the WSOP?

Everybody talked about the swede winning the biggest pot throughout the year, but now everybody talk about the upcoming event as the biggest...

I'm comfused...

One is the World Series of Poker. The other is a World Poker Tour event.

The world series is the older and more established tournament. The WPT just finished taping its second season but it is a HUGE force driving poker.

The WPT Finals was open to anyone and had 343 entries each paying $25K each for a prize pool of $8,342,000. The payout was $2.7 million for first.

Last years WSOP had 839 entries for a slightly larger prize pool but a lower payout for first($2.5mil) due to the structure(some is taken out for the staff if I am not mistaken)

This years WSOP could be over 1500 creating a staggering prize pool and a mountain of players to outlast. Pokerstars alone has over 200 going and is giving 2 seats away a day at least.

Selling out is not inconcievable. They have a contigency plan if more than 2K show.

And what might the contingency plan be should more than 2000 people show up?

They're just going to give Takk the 200 Million and interview him for 11 hours on ESPN.
