Default I was reading some rules about the blinds... is this right?

Okay, I was reading up on rules and came across this example.

Side pots occur in limit poker, but because the bets are larger in No-Limit, the situation tends to occur a bit more frequently here. Let's look at an example involving three players, Andy, Bob, and Chuck. When the hand starts, Andy has $1,000 in chips, Bob has $400, and Chuck has $2,500. The blinds are $5-$10.

In the pre-flop betting, Andy opens the hand for $50, and Bob and Chuck each call. This puts $165 in the main pot.

This sounds very wrong, as I would think the pot would only be $150. If the blinds are in at $5 and $10 and the opening bet is $50, if the other two call, they only call $45 and then $40 as the blinds count as part of the betting. It's this way everywhere I played. In order to get the pot to $165, wouldn't Andy need to bet $55 as at any given point all players must have put the same amount into the pot?

How is that done in the WSOP?

Hmmm, that $165 would assume that there would be at least five players. Andy would raise $50, Bob and Chuck would each call $50, and the two blinds would fold, leaving the pot at $165

Or yes, the initial raise could be $55.

Your example does not specify who posted the blinds. For the math to work, people other than Andy, Bob and Chuck would have posted the blinds and folded to the raise:

Andy (50) + Bob (50) + Chuck (50) + small blind (5) + big blind (10) = 165.

If they're the only 3 players at the table, though, then I can see where the confusion occurs and you would be correct, for the pot to be 165, all 3 would have to contribute 55.

That example was from a web site, and that was all the information. Thanks for the clarifications!
