OK, I'll bite.
First of all, I agree. There are grammar and spelling snobs out there who berate others and generally try to make them feel inferior. These people are dull and you should ignore them.

But...Spelling and grammar are not a set of random rules made up for the hell of it. Think about when you talk to somebody. It's not just one stream of words: there's pauses, tone of voice, expression, body language and all sorts of nuances. Writing can't capture all of these, but punctuation, grammar and spelling are all there to help to turn a bunch of letters into a way of communicating. Because we all use the same rules (ish), we can communicate more easily.

Why do some people give you grief? They're having to work harder than they'd like to to understand you. That extra effort is frustrating and to some extent it's your fault. If you don't use the same rules as the majority of people, you won't be understood as well as you could be. They may take this to mean you're stupid or you don't think they're worth the effort of communicating with well. Either way, their opinion of you is lowered. That doesn't mean they're not dicks, of course.

Your spelling is fine - judging by one post, but you're right: your grammar is non-existent. Leave a space after a full stop, start sentences with a capital letter and use full words. Don't worry about the rest unless you want to.

I hope that's not a lecture, but I've had a crappy day.

I dont know what a dimlow is, and North and I have traded some barbs, certainly, but I'm going to have to agree with Stew on this one.

I never graduated third grade. Have excellent spelling, and made over 1 billion dollars selling paperclips to the blind last month alone!

You too can be all that and more, if you study the dark notjitsu art of internet fighting.

Date ugly girls? Study notjitsu, and when you tell people on the internet about them, they will appear tall, busty, blonde models! Have a low paying job at McDonalds? A brown belt Notjitsu warrior with the same job will be a manager of a restaurant. A black belt owns his own franchise! Lift weights? Neither do I...but people on the internet won't mess with me cause I bench 300 12 reps for 6 sets without breaking a sweat!

Unlock your imaginary potential today, and join the Notjitsu Dojo near you!

At last, a topic all about me!

Or is it? On first reading this I was immediately struck by the thought that I may have gone too far this time... until I reread your original post that provoked my comments. I'm not pointing this out to be cruel or hurt you in any way, but it's worth mentioning that your post contained 1 paragraph of 68 words and not one single comma or full stop.

Presumably you post because you want people to read what you have to say. You should realise that few are going to bother with a post such as yours, simply because they can't be arsed to put in the supreme effort required to try to understand whatever point it is you're trying to make.

I'm glad you're so successful that you feel able to boast about your earnings in front of strangers, and call people names (though it would be more effective if you chose abusive terms that people understand). You left school at 14, which may or may not have been your choice, but it's irrelevant as kids are taught how to communicate in writing more effectively than you've demonstrated, well before that age.

I've just noticed that another regular contributor has branded a more recent post of yours "unreadable mindcrap". But hey, don't listen to anyone else, will you?

On a more positive note, your post here is much clearer and no Herculean efforts are required to make sense of it; by comparison, it's clear that your first post was just sheer laziness on your part. Methinks the gentleman doth protest too much.

I've just realised who you are - you're one of those guys that every Soho production company employs to supply their producers with coke, aren't you?

Harry,

Stew and Northview have both taken the time to make some very good points to you about why your first posts weren't well received. I think you should see that as a real effort to help you want to stay and make yourself as clear as possible.

I know everyone picks at each other from time to time, but keep in mind: alot of us have Pokertips in the background while we're playing online. Maybe things are going great in our game/s and maybe we just got checkraised by the biggest fish at the table. I'm just saying sometimes we just might be grumpy or impatient.

As for Northview.....

I had to look up "dimlow" on Google and still couldn't figure out what it meant. But I do know some of North's post have been really helpful to me.

Don't miss out on the benefits of this forum! It's worth it to wade through some of the stuff you don't appreciate. Mostly it's all in good fun!
