Default First B&M Game

Okay so you all remember I went bust at Stars this week, and lost most of the $100 profit that I had made in February. Well I just got a check in the mail from my school for $118 (I don't know why), so I convinced the girly friend to go to Casino Niagra with me and play some cards!

We both wanted to play NL, and the cheapest table available was $1/$2 with a max $100 buy-in. She was a little nervous about that so I told her I'd share my hopeful winnings with her if she went bust.

We were lucky enough to both get a seat at the same table, so I jumped to her right (I'm a jerk). I didn't realize that you have to pay $5 each half hour. I think that is a load but whatever.* First hand I get was Q9o, and I took the flop for free. Board comes QQ4 and I'm quite pleased. I was only able to win about $20 on that pot, but for the first hand I was happy.

Then about 2 or 3 hands later, I get 55 on the button. Everyone limps, including me. Flop is 5,7,T with 2 clubs.

Like all n00bs do, I reach for my chips instantly, forgetting I was on the button. The guy to my gf's left goes "OH HE'S GOT TWO PAIR!" and I said "No, I'm just playing with my chips." Regardless, the guy still bets $5. 2 callers, and I raise to $15. Everyone calls. WTF?

Turn is another T. I'm pretty happy right now. Action is checked to me and I bet $30. One caller. River is a brick and my opponent checks. I'm worried he might have tens full, so I check as well. He turns over a busted straight flush draw. WTF?

Besides that, I hardly played any hands. I had AK in the small blind, raised to $10 after pretty much everyone limped, and everyone called regardless. The flop was rags, but I didn't even bother with a continuation bet because someone HAD to have hit SOMETHING.

My girlfriend unfortunately went bust, mostly from a hand that I don't think was her fault. She has AQ in LP and raises to $6. Quite a few people call, flop is T73 of spades. Turn Qd, she raises to $10 and one guy calls. River is a king, and the opponent takes the pot with K2o. No spades.

Poor girl. I walked away from the table with $180, and I gave her $30. Overall I had a fun time playing, but honestly, the play was NO DIFFERENT than micro limits on pokerstars. NO ONE would fold ANYTHING if they had limped into the pot. If it wasn't for that full house, I'd have probably just blinded away $20. I was really surprised how loose the table was. It was incredible. I suggested several times that we may as well be playing the slot machines, with the way everything was going.

*Come to think of it, I don't think there was any rake on the big pots. Still a load, though.

I'll say it wasn't her fault. Unless I'm missing something, she had top two pair and he had middle pair, which is generally the losing hand.

Last I checked, a king was more valuable than a queen. Plus, where is the second pair?

Maybe alot of stiffs werent tipping the dealer, and that would explain the lack of rake on some pots like theonlythree said. (Or the dealer just isnt paying attention, stemming out the lack of tips)

Yeah, I wasn't tipping the dealer. After I won that $100+ pot with the boat, he kept his eye on me, and was even hitting the slot for his chips. I pretended I didn't notice.

Yes I'm a jerk. I also raised my gf $10 in a pot and the table was like "Is that your girlfriend?" Hah.

Oh yeah, another weird thing that happened, one hand I was SB and my GF was BB. Everyone folded around to us, and the dealer says "chop?" and I'm like "....okay?" and we just took our blinds back. Never heard of that before, either.

I think Storrey was making a joke there.

Yeah, I called the place and they said $100 was the max buy-in. Although, we bought our chips from a cashier instead of the dealer. When we sat down, he didn't count our chips or anything so we probably could have brought a bunch more.

Even though I won a hefty sum, I don't know if I'd want to go there again for awhile. $5 per half hour is pretty fuckin dumb.

Are you familiar with the concept of session fee?

You were paying $5 per half hour session instead of rake. That's sick by the way, because I only pay $5 per half hour when I'm playing 10/20 at Rama or the Great Blue Heron (anyone in southern Ontario will know what I'm talking about).

I think I'd complain if the pots were raked ON TOP of that $5 an hour!

Also, since you're talking about Casino Niagara - the old one not the fallsview - it's an ok casino but as far as poker rooms go, you NEED something higher than 3/6... I wish I'd known that and would have gone straight to the fallsview casino instead.
