Default Donk play or sheer brillance/luck :-)

I ended up placing second in this SNG but I'd like to know if this one hand was totally a donk move or if it was okay. I think it was "donk" but I was short stacked and was just praying at this point to stay in the game.

Others may disagree with this, so take it for what it's worth - my opinion.

You said it yourself. Shortstacked, and you're barely five rounds away from the blinds knocking you out. At that point most players will go all in with any decent hand preflop, and 99 rates as such in my book.

Nobody wins without some luck, you got a little and got back in it. My only thing is I would have gone all in preflop, definitely after the raise to $200. My thinking is it could have potentially fewer people around to get a hand to beat you.

All 5 callers folding is not happening

First of all the pot has been rasied and called before him (total of $520 in the pot). A pre-flop shove only makes it $360 more to call to the raiser & Caller ($360 into a $1100 pot), with all the dead money you're likely to get at least one call. If they do all fold it's not the end of the world and you take down $500 and double up without having to showdown which is just about perfect. By calling pre-flop you're pretty much pot-comitted anyway so get it all in while it has a chance to be effective.

You want to try and get heads up with a mid-poket pair and hope you're in a race and try to win it (of course someone could call you with 22-88 and you're minty but what they're doign in the pot is anyone's guess)
