Default He should have taken the offer, or why Stars deals process sucks.

So after I got completely bitch slapped in the $1 Shads and I was in (see Players' Lounge), I decided to sit down at one of the 375FPP 36 players turbo sat. to Sunday Million.

Nothing special until I flopped a straight on the flop and ended up in a 3-way all-in against a 2 pair and a nut flush draw. Hand held up and I became chip lead. 2nd chip lead was same table until we got broken up.

He then took over chip lead for a little bit until I made a big call with 99 on a board with 3 tens against a flush. Kept up my luck on a few all-ins where I was always ahead preflop by miles until they either nearly draw out on me or i redraw on them (e.g. AA vs 44, 4 on flop, A on river).

We're HU. I have t38180, the other guy have t15820 and want to deal. Prize is of course winners take all entry to Sunday Million / T$215. He wants $80. Now, I don't even knows whether it's possible to deal on a (FPP) sat. He assures me it's possible, and I was willing to wait for support to check.

Now if Stars have a automatic deal making system like Party, I would probably have taken it. While (T)$135 is not earth breaking, I haven't won anything much (online) for a while (well, since my 1st and only MTT win on Party for $1000 a while back), and don't mind taking it. Of course, with us sitting out and time to spare, I started on the calculator and work out base on chip stacks, he's on about $60.

I offered $50, then $60, and finally $70 to him. Only $10 difference (well, $20 in terms of bottom line), but he's was wholeheartedly no, let's play then.

Result:

1st hand - I'm SB, call. He push, me fold. (Q5s)
2nd hand - He limp, I raise to 3BB (t3600), he push, I call with KdJd. He had Kc4s. No 4 to help him and I take home T$215.

I play in a live game where the final two players usually chop if their stacks are even close to equal. Well I play to win and the other players get annoyed that I want to continue heads-up when they want to start a new game. I guess they don't see the merit in heads-up play, as if it's a coin-flip on who will win? I'll chop occassionally if the turn-out was low and the money difference isn't to great, but the pressure to chop is immense and they start to get attitudes with me when they are the ones who played like crap and got knocked out.

What do you say to people like this to get them off of your back without being rude or coming off as a prick? It sucks when you crush a passive old-timer who is just playing for fun but you had the cards. Then everyone guns for me in the next game like I did something wrong. I mean, sometimes the prize pool is as low as $200 so winning is what makes it even worth showing up for. I've donated plenty to this game at times but have won more than my fair share, but that is why we play, right?

If it's the same players every time, then the easiest option is "no deal ever". That way, they'll know beforehand and won't think oh you're not dealing this time because you think they're rubbish, or whatever. Also, you've made your stance clear, even if they don't like it, they'll know what it is.

Daniel Negreanu on not making a deal.
