Default What is considered a bad downswing in SH limit ?

Well I just lost 320$ in 800 hands playing 2/4 limit, this is probably my worst session ever.

I already had some 300-350$ downswings before though.

So what is considered a really bad downswing ? 100BB ? 150 ? 200 ?

Also I play shorthanded.

isn't like three hundred bets totally standard shorthanded? I don't play limit but that's what I seem to recall.

I think 300-350BB is when to REALLY start to consider it bad.

At 2/4 I'd imagine 100BB downswings are going to be fairly common

this depends a lot on your actual earn rate. PT can tell you your SD (go to sesssion notes, more detail).

then you can calculate the chances of getting a downswing of X. I dunno the formulas, but I know a neat program which simulates this.

At $10/$20 shorthanded 500BB downswings happen to players with a small winrate. I went through a 400BB downer once over like 8000k hands or something like that. And that was playing longhanded. At $2/$4 I would be suprised if a player with 250k hands experience does not experience at least a 250-350BB downer at least once though.

The Limit games have gotten so much tougher I think you need 500BB for LH and 750-100 for SH. I do not expect you or anybody else to use all of it but that also includes buy-ins for multiple tables if need be and to be able to play without worry.

Given the levels I'm currently at (small verging on micro) I'm working on 650BB but I'm in full agreement with you that once you're at the 2/4-3/6 level it's 1000BB.

If anything it'll help avoid tilt (as you put)

Wow thanks for the input, I am actually on 400 BB for SH, and yeah when I see dowswing like that I have to say that bankroll may be a little bit short.

However, I disagree when you say limit (especially SH) is thougher (well it is tougher than 2 years ago obviously) but the games hasnt changed as much as the NL table did.

If we agree to say that 2/4 is the equivalent of100 NL (as you buy in for about the same amout and it requires the same bankroll), I guarantee you the average level of the players if gonna be MUCH higher on the NL table.

Well yes and no. The LImit games have gotten tougher because the winning players stayed and the marginal winners and losers moved to NL. At the lower levels the difference is not as noticable because there is still a large enough fish pool. BTW I play mostly longhanded.
