Default My Worst bad Beat Ever....To an Asian Drunk!

Now let me start off by saying i almost never go on tilt, and i never let poker "get" to me. But we are all human and eventually something grinds our gear so bad we just lose it. My ultimate bad beat story

$1/$2 NL cash game in Casino Niagara

Seat 1 SB: $570 (grinder, tight)
Seat 2 BB: $600 (drunk asian talking too much)
Seat 3: $300 Fold
Seat 4: $100 Limp
Seat 5: $50 Fold
Seat 6 $700 Limp
Seat 7: $600 Limp
Seat 8: $350 Limp
Seat 9: $40 fold
Button (me): $290 (started with 80, played solid poker)
Hand: 5h 5d So i limp and so do the blinds

Flop: Js 5c 2h
Seat 1 raises to $15 (pot sized bet)
Seat 2 calls
Passes around to me.
My image is tight, i know i have the best hand as the only possiblity is a pair of jacks, which anyone with half a brain would have raised with.
I have observed the SB is smart and plays well, so he definitly has a hand. The drunk Asian is a maniac who has gotten lucky and gloats about it.

My thoughts: no matter what, i am probably going to get a big pay day. I could just smooth call, but i am p80% sure these guys will call a reraise here. I will move in on the turn no matter what.

i raise to $50 the blinds insta-call... hehe

the turn is 2d.

The small bind checks
the big blind pushes
I put on a broadway show debating a call, to convince the grinder to call as well, it works.

I am all in for close to $910 pot

Small Blind: 5s 2c
Big Blind: Jh 7c

From the flop i am 99% favorite to win, the small blind is drawing dead.
From the turn i am 93% to win, with the only card that can beat me is a jack. And so that god-forsaken card hits.

i lose a $1,000 payday, a college student with not enough money to buy grand theft auto.

Now if that wasn't bad enough, the asian guy stood up and yelled "i am amazing" and "i am the next WSOP champ!" now i have completely lost it, i threw my chair as i got up and left, as i had no money to reload.

this hand will be forever etched into my brain as "the worst beat ever"

Thought? ha

Casino Niagara is awesome, but yeah.

I wish I saw your temper tantrum. I bet everyone had a good laugh at your expense.

The fact that you're a poor college student makes this beat suck. I'm sure you could have used the $1000, but at least all you actually lost on the session was $80.

However, I should tell you, if you think this is bad, just wait. If you ever run like I do, you'll have to watch thousands and thousands of dollars you *should* win (in all likelihood should, not because of some ethical deservedness) go the other way.

I can't even remember how many of these I've taken, but if you added up how much I lost versus how much I've won when the shoe was on the other foot, I'd probably be as mad about it as you are about this.

Funny thing is the worst beat I've taken live was also against a stupid asian man who should have folded to my bets and all-in (nothing against asians, I'm just saying this man was asian an stupid, purely coincidence but it happened to be the case). And also, despite losing something over a $1k pot, I managed to only be down $80 at the end of the session. I hope for your sake this is the end of any similarity between how I run and how you run.

PS - the grinder dude lost with a full house and lost more than you did. He got coolered for the main pot and bad beat for the side pot. I bet you weren't the only guy who wanted to punch the asian guy in the face.

no, nobdy laughed.. and its not cool that you are trying to make me look like a kid, as i explained i am almost never mad, and i am almost never on tilt. what you called a "tantrum" i called my text books, so next time don't assume everything.

Twllm, thanks for your condolenses. i know the grinder did get kind of screwed, but i thought his call of my reraise on the flop was incorrect. Even though i pegged him for a call, doesn't make his play right.

I hope that is where the similaries end for the both of us too, lol. I am sure next time that type of beat comes my way i won't be angry as i was that time... now that i know those pesky 1% chance to lose hands DO happen.

Quite true. I never said his play was correct on the flop; however, on the turn, he can't get away from that hand. And he actually would have broken even or so from the sidepot had the luckbox not hit the J, so all I meant was that the dude laid down a beat on both of you.

I'm glad that even though you're lamenting the 'loss of your text books', you didn't actually lose the money to buy those. Big difference between losing your money for school and losing (ie. not winning) money that would have paid for them. Just don't use money needed for other things and you'll be ok no matter how bad your luck is.

"You want people making bad calls when you bet strong hands like that, you should be happy, in the long his bad call in that spot is a massively profitable situation for you blah blah blah blah blah..................." Fucking sucks doesn't it? God I hate it when people try and gloss over a nightmare beat with stupid answers like that. (Not that anyone here has done that). It doesn't make you feel even a tiny bit better. You got beat by a moron who shouldn't have called with his bullshit top pair no kicker hand. Sorry to hear it and I know exactly where you are at. It's like being puched in the stomach. And then the imbecile gloats about it? He deserves to be bashed. You know something? I know that stupid fish like that in poker is where the money comes from but guess what? It doesn't make me hate them any less. Yes, I loathe stupid non thinking fish. Often when I am playing whether I be winning or losing I think to myself "these morons must be at least mildly retarded, there is simply no other explanation for the idiotic things they do." Sorry, but I hate fish however I do realize that without them, poker would not be profitable. I guess I simply cannot respect someone who is so stupid and lazy they can't be bothered to make any effort whatsoever to try and understand basic concepts and fundamentals yet they are willing to sit down and put money at risk. Even worse is when they have the audacity to gloat about their "skillz."
