Default When I folded pocket AA's

I recently played a live game with a few mates from work.

There was four of us left in the match, and we play winner takes all, so second is no option in this game.

And I was dealt the rockets, very excited with these cards I made a nice pre-flop raise to remove the players with ragged cards.

Flop came out, Qxx rainbow

I thought for a second and made a 4xBB raise.

Now the guy on my left immediately called, I instantly knew I was beat but Its very hard to fold pocket aces. This individual was a tight but not agressive player, very rarely made bluffs.

Turn comes out, another ragged hand. Worried at this point that my Aces are no good (at this stage I was positive he had pocket Q's), I just checked.

He raises 4xBB

I still thought he had me beat here, but just couldnt fold the Aces, so I called.

The River, yet another ragged card. Again I check, and he thinks for a moment and pushes.

Now at this point, he had me covered stack wise, I had put around 50% of my chips into the pot and really didn't know what to do.
I have never folded Aces before, and I was certain he had me beat.

After a lengthy pause, I looked at my stack (knowing I still have a chance to get the chips back, winner takes all remember) I just bowed my head and said 'fold', I threw my cards face up on the table.
Everyone couldn't believe I folded pocket aces.

With respect the other guy flipped over what he had, he only had two pair, Q and a ragged card. Ok, so I don't know WHY he played with such trash cards but thats what happens sometimes. I'm just glad I managed to see I was beat - ok a little late when I knew I was beat - neverless the best fold I done in a long time.

One mistake was putting your opponent on exactly one holding (QQ) when more than one was likely/possible (what about lower sets? or two pair like he had?). This time you folded and it was correct, but what if the river paired the board other than your opponent's two pair? Then you're folding the winner to his lower two pair.

Seldom is it right to put your opponent on 1 exact holding (when both cards play at least - I'm not talking about a shove on a KQJT board).
