Default First Post - Hand Comments?

hello! i've lurked for awhile, this is my first post. i was in a hand last night i wanted to get some opinions on:

game is NL $1-$2

I had been playing for about 2 hours, and folded pretty much every hand except for a few choice hands that didn't hit on the flop. overall, the table is playing pretty loose.

I'm on the button and get dealt 99. Player in mid-position raises to $10. 2 callers, and I decide to call because someone could easily have a higher pair, or at least one or two better cards. SB and BB call, or a total of 6 people in the pot.

Flop comes out 9 Q x rainbow. Checks around to the original bettor (OB) who bets another $10. Folds around to me, and I bet $25. SB and BB fold (whispering "Thanks" to me) and OB calls, leaving us heads up.

Turn comes, I don't remember what it is, and OB bets $50. I put all my chips in, and he has me covered. He's got Q9, so I'm just hoping for no Q on the river. No Q comes and I double up.

----

The question here is: did I play this hand correctly? I feel like if I had smooth called the $10 instead of raising I could have at least made a bit more money, if not quadrupled up. SB and BB told me after I had them beat.

Maybe I'm just bitter because the very next had I was dealt KK, put a loose cannon all in and lost to his KQ on runner-runner Qs...

Thanks!

- Jeff

yeah ofc, u know they wouldn't fold QQ I guess.

you might raise a little more on the flop, but depending on stack sizes a small raise or call are ok b/c of the huge preflop pot, so you will get it allin anyway.

So say whether calling, raising mall or raising big is best we need to know how big the stacks were.

Right.

OB had just doubled up (on 99 actually) and had about $500. I was sitting with about $150, and SB and BB each had about $800.

My thought was I didn't want to become too pot commited preflop in case a monster board hit and i had to bail. If i had to fold I wanted to have enough behind me to play effectively.

Raise more on the flop imho. it's a loose game preflop..so it's probably loose after the flop too, so nobody will fold their KQ here. With your small raise you're giving someone with JT the odds he needs to make a straight and beat you. You're also almost giving correct odds for someone with two pair to draw to a bigger boat (5% of a future 300 pot is 15$).

I'd say make it $50-60 to go and be ready to push the turn.

Welcome to the forums wash. Agree with the other posters about postflop, as far as preflop goes your flat call there is fine. You had the necessary odds to call for set value. Sometimes you can reraise 99 if there is a good chance you will get heads up, but with a raiser and two callers that's unlikely so in this situation I think flat calling is best.

Thanks for your help and suggestions! For some reason this hand really stuck out in my mind.
