No reads, this was only like the second or third hand of the tourney. I'd have mucked the hand if I hand't gotten to see the flop free.

I know it's a bad beat, and I'm not whining about that at all. They happen, gotta live with it. According to the hand simulator, I'm like 95% to win against J2o there. Which means I'll lose it one time in twenty. Excrement occurs!

What I am wondering is, would it have been better for me to have bet the flop rather than check raise it? What's optimal there?

Thanks for any advice.

More experienced players will regularly fold much stronger hands than yours on the flop i.e basically anything other than KK,99 or K9, because they have a feeling that the backdoor flush might hit.

What do you want? You get your money in when you are 95% Favorite. He needs 2 perfect cards.

So what the hell??? If I ever can get my money in such a spot I turned to a professional player.

You say it: It's a bad beat. Bad beats are Poker. If you never get a bad beat, you don't get your money in as favorite.

seriously?

Sorry, my sarcasm radar is on the blink at the moment...I'm not sure if you mean this or not

I'm certainly not very exprienced, so you might be for real. I think I'll need a lot more experiece before I could lay down a set there.

Everyone here needs much more experiemce to lay down a set in this case.

I don't see a set here anyway. The only thing I see is a lucky guy who floped trips.

Have you actually read Ginsberg, Kerouac or Burroughs? Just being on the same continent as Ginsbergs beard is enough to cause nightmares!

To be honest you deserve some credit for posting this in the poker stories forum and not somehow trying to pretend that this is strategy so I'll explain things.

Basically you put yourself into a great situation where your opponent was in the position where he needed to catch running cards in order to win, that is all that matters. The fact that he got lucky and hit is runner runner flush is irrelevant, in poker all that matters is what happens before the money goes in since that is the only thing which you can control.

Regarding your actual hand you want to be careful when playing something like K5 (I know you were in the BB here and had no choice) because you will often find yourself outkicked (its pretty amazing that you weren't given the flop action).

Anyway, good luck and don't worry about "bad beats" only worry about the actions that you take.

Yeah after seeing the flop action I thought you were gonna be wrecked by higher trips and was asking if it was a cooler.
