Let's not get off track here guys.

I will admit I do not know as much about economics as some of you. All I can say is that through the other things he says, and the consistency of his overall platform, I would trust his opinion on this matter over that of a big-money banker and his economist friends.

Quote:
I thought that your central bank was like the bank of Canada, not 'run' by the government (we don't have legislators setting interest rates b/c that would be ridiculous) but not independent by any means - the chairman is appointed by the federal gov't, right? And it doesn't 'own' the US currency per se, it is just a repository which loans money to the government and others, and of course the loan is at the prime rate of interest.
There is a faux head of the Federal Reserve that is put there by the government. However, that doesn't much matter if the big money interests are in control of BOTH the FED and the President. And they do own the money in the sense that they have the control to both create it and affect it's value through their practice.

With all that said, this issue absolutely pales in comparison to his foreign policy.

And finally, let it be said that it is the principle of this man that I cannot get over. It is his absolute contempt for big government and respect for personal liberty that assures me he is the only person I want in the Oval Office.

Oh, and please to stop with your little faux humor remarks Mr. V. I invented sarcasm, and your version of it is rather inane. If you don't have something productive to add (and I know you do), then please stay out of the discussion.

This is an hour-long debate between Dr. Paul, Doug Kasey (an anarcho economist of sorts), Dinesh D'Souza (Neocon) and Larry Abraham (Neocon). Really an excellent debate with two of the most sound arguments *for* war I've ever heard. I still think Dr. Paul blows them out of the water. Although I would say that some of D'Souza's comments are rather flippant and he puts forth a number of points in his argument that Dr. Paul has shown to be of little to no merit.

Ron Paul is in favor of legalizing pot. Isnt that reason enough to vote for him?

He seems like an ok candidate.... i found this kind of alarming though http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_the_People_Act sounds a little too baptisty for me.

he also opposes stem cell research which I think is dumb.

1 thing i dont think he realizes is that if we let the southern states govern themselves anymore than we already do, this country would explode.

I'm an ACist and support Paul, even though I'm registered Democrat.

This isn't true. What he opposes is *government subsidizing* of stem cell research, just as he opposes government subsidizing of a great many things. He would in no way create some sort of government ban on private research. He may personally be against it, but on his list of priorities, this is rather far down the list.

It is true he is rather religious and this leads to his thinking being slightly convoluted in some regards (namely abortion). But let's look past this and recognize the greater good that he can do.

O rly? We should have discussed this. I'm likely to register Republican *gasp* before the primaries so I can vote for him.

I'm registered to vote in Oregon, and as far as I'm aware Oregon's primaries are so worthless that I'm not going to bother changing parties. If I'm in error (beyond omg vote civic duty, more like Oregon's results will make a difference) someone correct me.
