Default My First $1000 Profit Cash Game Session

Well, it took six sessions of 2/5 PL Hold'em but i've cleared my first 1k session

I played for about seven hours and won maybe six or seven hands.

KK > KQ on a queen high flop for a guy's 50BB stack
AA > Q9 for a guy's 15BB stack

then this hand came up

My stack is ~$600, the next biggest stack of an involved player is ~350, most players have ~300

Dealt to SwoopAE: Qs Qc

SB Posts 2.50
BB Posts 5
UTG Calls 5
SwoopAE Raises to 20
UTG+2 calls 20
MP1 raises 20 to 40
MP2 calls 40
MP3 calls 40
Cutoff folds
Button folds
SB calls 37.5
BB calls 35
UTG calls 35

... wtf is going on here?

I decide no one can possibly have KK or AA based on how the hand has played out so far

anyway, the hand continues

SwoopAE raises 300 to 340
UTG+2 Folds
MP1 calls and is all-in (~300)
MP2 calls and is all-in (~280)
MP3 calls and is all-in (~340)
SB Folds
BB Folds
UTG tanks for a while and folds 9s9c, face-up.

Pot size is between $1300 and $1400

SwoopAE flips Qs Qc
MP1 flips Ah Kd
MP2 says he has suited connectors, keeps cards hidden
MP3 says he has a low pair, keeps cards hidden

Flop: 9h 2c 4d

UTG is on the verge of tears (he's been folding winning hands all night and he's tilting hard)

Turn: Qh

One time, baby!

MP2 disgustedly throws his hand into the muck

River: Kc

MP3 mucks
MP1 complains a bit and then mucks

Ship it! Four figure score in one hand!

New stack size: ~1700

As the dealer pushes the pot towards me, MP2 starts looking extremely distressed and suddenly says oh my god, I folded JT suited, I thought I was drawing dead when you hit your set on the turn and I was too embarrased to show my cards because i'm normally a tight player and this was a really loose call.

His friend who looked at his cards confirms he had JT suited.

LOL

After this, I go card dead and lose ~400 over the next few hours, forced to fold an overpair to a set when my cbet was raised and paying off a nit with a set of aces with a lower kicker on the flop - by the turn I knew he had an ace when he called, but on the river I checked with intention to fold and he bet $50 into a $250 pot... I mean what can you do with three aces on an otherwise dry board getting 5-1?

So yeah, I cashed out with $1007 in profit. Not a bad night's work

LOL you run so good you get people to muck winning hands all-in against you.

Nice score. Crisis averted, yes?

Nice score--Congrats!

I'm a little unclear on the guy with the JT. First of all, if everyone is all in and no more betting can take place, why are people keeping their cards hidden? I guess I thought the cards had to go face up at that point.

Second, why would anyone throw in their cards early when they're already all in? I assume this is just the kind of emotional mistake someone can make when they're stressed? I don't play live very much so I guess I'm wondering how often these kind of player goofs occur. I don't know how I'd take it if I mucke the winning hand on the turn when I didn't have to--lol.

It's PL because in Queensland where I live, No Limit for real money is still illegal so the casinos have limit, half pot limit and pot limit games. PL is essentially the same game as no limit anyway, since after a standrard 3BB raise, you either get six callers or get repopped, so a raise on the flop essentially commits your stack. It's ABC poker at its finest.

Yes, it was a mistake, he saw I hit a set, mis-read the board and thought he was drawing dead (or so he said) so he mucked in disgust. Personally, I always table my cards for that very reason.

...and for some reason in QLD casinos (not the case in VIC casinos like Crown, I know), players can keep their cards face down when all in and show in order starting from left of the dealer and if they dont beat the previous hand they can muck. Weird, but it's the rules so whatever.

Won $366 tonight. The players are so bad. My hourly rate is now over $50/hr at 2.50/5 PL, playing an average of about 20 hands/hr

I'd always been under the impression that was standard in cash games, but never having played in a casino I don't know.

At Crown, you have to show your hand face-up as soon as the action is completed when all players are all-in.

Well the story about the guy mucking an OESD in a huge pot is fun but stop saying "nice score". Two buy in 7hours is of course very nice to take buts its not a "nice score"

But I'm sure it undid his 'downswing' (i.e. the time he went more than 3 weeks without winning a 500+ person mtt).
