1) There are several people on this site who make an extremely nice living playing poker. There are people of all ages posting at this site.

2) Its tough to answer your question in terms of $/hr. Someone who plays at quarter stakes may have a higher proportional winrate than someone who plays at thousand dollar stakes but in terms of $/hr the higher-level people will have mind-boggling numbers.

3) For the vast majority of hobby players on this site, yes poker is a profitable hobby.

I have made enough money from poker as a hobby to comfortably live in a box on the street put it that way.

I'm 22

I've played for about 15 years, although i've only played for real money for about three years, online for two and at reasonable stakes for about one year.

I make about $25/hr playing live at the casino at a 2/5 PL Hold'em game with a $300 buy-in. You need a minimum bankroll of about 10k to handle the swings comfortably at these stakes. I would recommend at least 4k to play 1/2NL; I could probably make $15/hr in that game if I could find a casino with a low rake or timecharge.

I would make a similar rate (i'm estimating $25/hr) at 5/10 currently, as my edge in that game is lower. My current bankroll couldn't handle the swings though if I ran bad, so I might move up to 5/10 when my live poker roll is about 20k and my live cash game skill has improved.

I would average less than 10/hr multitabling .25/5 or .5/1 NLH or PLO online. I might break that multitabling 1/2NL. I haven't played above .5/1 online since I started refining my cash game; previously I was a breakeven player at 1/2 online.

I don't know how much I make per hour online playing MTTs, but i'm up about 25k plus 1x 10k and 1x 5k seat (I used both, went to Day 3/2 respectively, narrowly missed the money in both) over the past year. Probably making something like $10/hr playing a couple of midstake MTTs at once with a ROI of about +80% but I play MTTs for fun, not to make money. I consider myself to be a MTTer rather than a cash game or SnG player, but i've been playing live cash games out of necessity recently due to needing to make money to live off. I consider myself +EV at almost any stake in live MTTs (up to 10k buyins) and in tournaments up to $500 online.

Have been playing professionally for the last three months or so, although i'm not going to be doing it on a permanent basis until my bankroll is substantially larger (at least mid-high five figures, currently it's low five figures). Starting a new job in June, will continue playing poker part-time to supplement income then make a decision as to whether I want to play professionally when the time comes.

Some posters like Ishbu, a poster here, make a minimum of five figures per month. Bubbleboy, Skeptix, Ozone and a few others make good money too (as in, significantly more than me). Plenty of other posters make good money and the majority of regular posters seem to be winning players at their preferred stakes.

No, that's only posters like chefski who repeatedly post standard hands in the Tournament forum and then complain that Stars is rigged because they lose and they have solid, concrete proof, but the proof is secret and he can't tell us what it is. I think most (well, a majority, 50%+) of the posters with over 1000 posts are current winning players at their preferred stakes.
