Default Vegas advice

Making my first trip to Vegas in a few weeks. it just happens to land me there for a week while the Venetian Deepstack is on. I am planning on playing a couple of those events. Any pokertips guys playing them feel free to message me. We can have drinks in the break and if you want swap action.

Anyway as a total Vegas rookie, I was wondering what strip casinos have the softest cash games at the lower levels?

Also I notice on tourney fees Aussies have 30% withheld by the casino (dodgy) and was wondering if they can somehow withhold my winnings when I cash out of a cash table?

Oh and I am staying at the Imperial - their restaurants any good?

Coming into town for the Main Event of that series, but it sounds like you'll be gone by then.

All of the medium- to large-sized poker rooms have comparable lower stakes games. I'd recommend checking out the Caesars Palace poker room while you're there. Maybe the best all around room in the city for lower-stakes guys (if not the Venetian).

I can't speak to this as I have no clue. Maybe someone else will know.

Nothing personal, but IP (which is what most people refer to the Imperial Palace as) is pretty shitty. You might consider staying somewhere else if it's not too late to change. Hotel prices should be dirt cheap in that city right now. It's worth paying another $20 a night or whatever if you can get some place like T.I. or something.

As far as IP's restaurants, I don't think I've ever eaten at one. I would be surprised to learn that any them are good. There are tons of restaurants in Vegas (ldo) so there's no reason to waste a meal at a mediocre establishment. A few of my favorites are:

Burger Bar in Mandalay Place (< $20/person)
Canter's Deli in T.I. (< $20/person)
The 24 Hour Cafe at Wynn (Great late night food)
Nobu at Hard Rock (upscale Japanese food)

... I'm sure there are a few others I'm forgetting.

Anyway, hope this was of some help. Enjoy your trip!

The 30% withhold is IRS mandated and applies for all foreign nationals without tax-exempt status (and no, that doesn't mean just not having to pay tax on the winnings in your own jurisdiction - its more complicated than that, so if you're not sure if you have this status, you don't). It would apply to tournament winnings, jackpots etc, but not to cash game winnings usually. It may or may not apply to very small tourney wins, I don't know.

Any payout with 300:1 odds or more will have cashier withhold part of the winnings at which time you have to ID yourself and depending on if your USA or foreigner, they will withhold accordingly. It applies to all forms of gambling. I usually put in wagers for horse racing when I am in Vegas. They don't ask for ID or withhold money when I cash a winner at 90:1 for example but they will for triactors/superfectas that pay in the thousands.

Being Canadian, I can recoup most of the holdings back by filling in a Form 1040NR and 1042-S.

Ya, Imperial Palace is a dump.

One of my friends just went during this very past week and paid $49 for a room in the Luxor. Flew in on Monday & flew out on Thursday and scored sweet deals on both hotel and airfare.
