Default I'm never playing poker again

I played a drunken session early today where I lost about 25k.
I managed to have a wave of soberness to the end of the session and didnt go to 200/400 which probably saved the remainder of my roll online. I then passed out.

I have decided I will not play online poker again for a while. This is about the 5th time I have did something like this for this kind of amount and frankly I cant trust myself not to do it again. I withdrew everything I had from all sites, bought as much as I could with FPP points and banned myself for the max 180 days. So it is pretty final.

This a extremly good life decision for me. I am about 95K VPPs from supernova elite. Fuck it in my opinion. The 25K or so in tourny equity simply isnt worth it. I need to do this.

Ill finish this year up about 60k +90K or in so rakeback. If I didnt play drunk I probably would be up about 300K+ 90k.

Ill be honest the majority of the posts I have made here over the years were made drunk simply cause I more likely to post when drunk then sober. I realize that alcholism is really my problem and not poker but I think its going to much easier for me to stop drinking if Im not gambling.

Anyways good luck to you guys. If I am off the wagon in half a year I may think about playing again.

Good luck with this problem.

I had a drinking issue myself which was linked to mental/behavioral/depression/anxiety/medication issues.

I had this twice, once in early 20s, next round 25 years later.

Both times my life exploded. After the first I had 20 wonderful and productive years. Then boom again. It has all played out over five years and I am just now getting it back together.

And I am going to have at least 20 more wonderful and productive years ahead.

But its a day to day thing. You have to forgive yourself everyday. Everyday you have to look at your life the way it is instead of the way you want it to be. And it hurts like hell.

At least thats the way it is and has been for me. We are all different. You are going to have to find your own answers, your own way.

Time heals, I wish for you ample time to heal and 20 good years behind.

Sad to see you go but even the best players need to get their life together before they can focus on playing poker seriously. A friend of mine at the moment (big name player who has won a bunch of stuff; most people would know him but I won't say who) is currently going through a similar thing; he's made seven figures playing poker but degened it away sports betting, i've recently been giving him general life advice and a 2k roll for him to start the grind with since he's hit busto, but i'm worried he's just going to end up degening it all away when he's back on his own money after he's paid me back and i'm not in control of what he plays anymore.

All I can say is get your shit together and come back to poker when you're sober and the rest of your life is in order and you'll be crushing it again within a few months.

I play drunk too from time to time but for some reason I have enough discipline when i'm drinking to play at lowstakes so the money involved isn't significant to me. If you're unlucky enough not to have that inherent discipline, all you can do is stop drinking altogether or stop playing poker or both.

GL, hope to see you at the tables again soon.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Poker is a hell of a way to make a living, so many of us are using something. I kicked a ~7 year addiction recently, it'll be 5 months on Sunday.

I'm sure you won't be short of people happy to lend an ear if you need to talk or vent.

Good luck.
