Default SCOOP #13 Stakewatch Thread

This event is strange. Technically it's a No Limit Hold Em Freezeout, but there is a significant twist. Instead of having the blinds go up to force the action, the antes go up. The first level is 5/5/10, so a SB of 5, a BB of 5 and an ante of 10. From there the blinds are locked at 5/5 but the antes increase. Admittedly I have never played this format, but in reality, few people have. There's only one ante up tournament I can think of with a guarantee and it's only a $5 buy-in IIRC. I imagine the typical open will be approaching the size of the pot, but this format definitely leaves room for some crazy strategies. You could have an ante of 1000 going and raise to 50, it's just ridiculous. Anyways, the blind progression for the LOW and MED are identical, but again the LOW has 15 minute levels whereas the MED has 20. Both start with 5000 chips.

I will be playing the LOW and MED tournaments. The LOW is a $16.50 buy-in with a guarantee of $50,000. The MED is a $165 buy-in with a guarantee of $100,000.

To stakers : You are encouraged to participate in this thread and offer your support. If you would like to sweat me, that is fine as well. The only thing I ask if you are sweating me is to keep the observer chat to a minimum. Absolutely nothing that could be construed as strategy should be said, and I would prefer that you not even say hi or good luck unless I am deep. I don't mean to be a dick, but it affects the perceptions of others at the table. If you would like to talk to me personally, I will be on IRC for that purpose.

To players : Post your chip counts and hand histories! This thread is more about the event then my stake, you are encouraged to participate. The more the merrier and all that.

Less than a half hour in and I'm in love with this format. The options preflop are much more dynamic, it's just really interesting. It seems that others agree because both tournaments are going to more than triple their guarantees. It seems Stars was worried these wouldn't be popular, but that's probably just based on the lack of interest in the little $5 in the middle of the day. I think there is going to be much more interest after this tournament and I hope that there is.

That sounds weird but very interesting. I'll have your table open for a little while, see how this works in practice. Also, gl obviously.

I've seen four hands now, it seems safe to conclude that most people don't really have a clue how to play under these conditions.
