people suck more live. but the volume of hands is so much slower it is difficult to pay attention sometimes. The rake is of course much worse, tournament structures are usually terrible. Just play hands for value, avoid the other people who know how to play (which they are really easy to point out).

oh and tipping dealers sucks too.

The "stare" is mostly nonsense from the myth of how to play poker. When playing within your bankroll then the stare is mostly irrelevent. You have a hand or you don't. If I am up against a habitual stare-gazer then I call clock everytime and watch them come unglued. If it is a spot that is meaningful and I might leak, I say the alphabet in my mind as if I am hand-writing each letter in my head and I tend to never crack a smile when strong since my mind is focused elsewhere.

Wait, you are suppose to tip the dealer?

I guess my sympathies with Mr. Pink might become a problem...

How much does society deem necessary?

When I played regularly I tipped $5 or a big blind what ever was larger on big pots that I pulled in (big pots mean somthing different to everyone). That is it. Now I did tip the lady at the board so when I called in she would hold a spot for me at the most "live" game. Tipping dealers though is a waste of money and should be done sparingly.

Nothing is the proper toke for most casino employees; but in the case of the dealer one is counting on them to see that a flush beats a straight and not the other way round so a small toke my be prudent.

This depends upon upon why they're staring. If doing it just to unnerve one your acts will work; but if they're staring because they can soul read you need sun glasses and a big hood; unless one is Gus Hansen.

you tip dealers to make sure they know a flush beats a straight? call the floor. if he shares this confusion, cash out.

what i want in a dealer is someone who keeps the action straight and the game moving. if possible, they should contribute to a pleasant atmosphere but at the very least they shouldn't detract from it. if you are slow, habitually fuck up or sit there with a puss on your face, the service industry probably isn't for you.
