sure. lets say you both have 30 BB stacks. his raise is to about 3 BB, your reraise is to about 10 BB, he moves in for 30 total. ignoring the blinds and antes to keep it simple, there is 40 BB sitting out there to win, it costs you 20 BB to call.

you're getting 2:1 pot odds, which means you need equity of about 33% to make the call profitable. if his range is any wider than QQ+, you have the necessary equity.

noting that you're a new player; which bits of that do i need to explain in more detail?

also, welcome to pokertips.

You need to learn to think in ranges rather than specific hands, and learn to calculate pot odds.

KC's post is good, he can explain further if you elaborate on which parts you don't understand

Welcome to ptips

buzz, in all likelihood you played the hand fine. Getting it in pre-flop with AK in a two-way pot with under 50 big blind stacks (how many big blinds did you have?) is pretty much never -EV. That outcome will happen a lot though where you're flipping against a pair and don't win.

Welcome

All the time. In fact, I get myself all in as an underdog, so coin flips are a no brainer.

The trick is to know when to get into coin-flips and why.
