PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $7,800 NL Hold'em

The World Poker Tour (WPT) rolled into 2006 basking in the scenery of the Atlantis Hotel and Casino located in the Bahamas. The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure draws a uniquely large number of online qualifiers due to the fact that the tournament is sponsored by an online cardroom. Many of the participants won their seat to this tournament through a satellite at PokerStars. The champion of the main event was no exception.

Canadian Steve Paul-Ambrose got the return of a lifetime when his $62 online investment (which won him a seat into this tournament) turned into a first place payout of over $1.3 million dollars. The final table was rich in internet qualifiers most of whom turned a small online investment into a six-figure payday. Brook Lyter earned $681,000 for 2nd place.

The only known professional player at the final table was David Singer, who won $436,000 for 3rd place. Mike Higgins will take home $327,000 for 4th. Anders Henriksson won $239,000 for 5th. Online poker phenomenon Aurangzeb "Ozzy87" Sheikh made his first WPT final table but had to settle for the 6th place payout of $177,000.

2005 World Champion Joe Hachem put in a fine showing by finishing 67th in the event, which drew 724 participants. The $12,000 payday is unlikely to cause a noticeable improvement on Hachem's staggering bankroll.

The next WPT event is the World Poker Open held in Tunica, Mississippi later this month. Young John Stolzmann will attempt to defend his title.
