Poker Governing Body Launches
Tournaments, 2006-03-28, by TwoGun
This week marked the launch of the World Poker Association (WPA), which is the first non-profit organization that unites all tournament poker players into a member-based sporting association. Founder Jesse Jones says "the WPA is designed to become the PGA of Poker".
The WPA hopes to form relationships with media enterprises as well as corporations to help turn tournament poker into a sponsored sport. The group will work to form a universal set of tournament rules as well as code of ethics. Several renowned poker pros have already given support to the WPA including Barry Greenstein, Kenna James, and Blair Rodman.
Anyone is welcome to join the WPA. Those interested in applying for membership may do so through their website.
