Big Name Pros Lobby Congress

Law, 2006-04-05, by TwoGun

World class poker players Greg Raymer, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, and Howard Lederer were in Washington yesterday to lobby against Congress's latest push to legislate against online gambling. The specific bill the group was opposing would curb the ability of Americans to play at online casinos.

The bill's sponsor, Rep Robert Goodlatte (R-Va.) said, "online gambling doesn't just hurt gamblers and their families, it hurts the economy by draining dollars from the U.S." Raymer, a former lawyer, pointed out that the American public does not seem to be demanding for online gambling legislation.

Citing a survey conducted by an independent research firm, the group noted that nearly 75% of Americans are against the efforts of Congress to tighten the restrictions on internet gambling.
