Lavalife Party Poker Challenge

Promotions, 2006-04-20, by TwoGun

In the past, the typical online poker male:female ratio of 7:1 has hindered many relationships from forming at the poker table. Love proved that it can still bloom at a game of $3-$6 hold'em when last February a couple who met playing online poker got engaged. This prompted Internet dating service Lavalife to team up with Party Poker to bring the Lavalife Party Poker Challenge.

Singles who are a member of Lavalife and Party Poker are eligible to compete in this 12-week tournament. Each Thursday evening at 9:30 EST for the following 11 weeks a tournament will take place at Party Poker. The top 20 finishers from each tournament will advance to a final tournament to be held on June 9th. The 220 participants in the final tournament will be battling for various prizes, the sum of which is valued at $25,000. The grand prize is a trip for two to Club Med Turkoise in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

No money is needed to participate in this event, so the event presents itself as a nice freeroll for those that are members of both LavaLife and Party Poker. Lavalife is encouraging participants to flirt with each other in the chat box during game play. Who knows...perhaps the usual chat box banter besides "you *$^#@" and "rigged!" will be replaced with "27/m/Toronto" and "What's your sign, baby." Ideally, the winner of the tournament would invite a companion they met at the poker table to join them on the trip to paradise, instead of the casual bar hookup or friend's sister.

Warren Lush, a spokesman for Party Poker said, "This partnership with Lavalife which creates poker tournament tables exclusively for singles was an inevitable move for us." It's not clear if the typical online poker male:female ratio 7:1 will hold up in this event.
