WPT Championship $25k NL Hold'em

Excluding the $10,000 buy-in WSOP Main Event, the $25,000 buy-in World Poker Tour (WPT) championship is considered poker's most prestigious tournament. That in mind, over 600 participants coughed up the steep buy-in for a chance to win the $3.7 million dollar first place prize. Many remember ESPN's documenting of "The Crew", lead by Dutch Boyd which featured young poker greats like Scott Fischman and Brett Jungblut. This week one of the lesser known "Crew" members, Joe Bartholdi, rose to the heights of his peers by capturing the huge first place prize.

Bartholdi's road to victory was not easy. Las Vegas pros James Van Alstyne and Men "the Master" Nguyen finished 5th and 6th, respectively. David Matthews, who qualified online for just $25, won nearly 2 million for second place.

The list of names who finished in the money in this tournament was a Who's-Who of the poker world. Just a few of them included Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy, Freddy Deeb, Phil Hellmuth Jr., Johnny Chan, Doyle Brunson, and Jennifer Harman.

Season 5 of the WPT kicks off at the Mirage in Las Vegas on May 21st.
