2006 WSOP Results: Events #2 and 3

WSOP, 2006-07-01, by TwoGun

The first two open-events of the 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP) have completed. The $1,500 no-limit hold'em event drew an astounding 2,776 entrants, the most in a non-Main Event tournament in the history of the WSOP. A young Canadian semi-pro named Brandon Cantu rose to the top of the giant field to win over $750,000. Former World Champion Juan Carlos Mortensen found himself at the final table where he earned $71,000 for 9th place.

The $1,500 pot-limit hold'em event managed to draw 1,101 entrants. Former businessman turned casual poker player and world traveler Rafe "Tiltboy" Furst won $345,000 for first place. This was Furst's first bracelet (no pun intended). John Juanda made a final table appearance in this event where he won $37,000 for finishing 8th. A popular online player, Eric "Rizen" Lynch finished 3rd in this event which was good for $104,000. Rizen's strong finish should clearly be attributed to the wealth of good karma he received by submitting to a recent Weekly Shuffle interview.
