2006 WSOP: $50,000 H.O.R.S.E.

WSOP, 2006-07-15, by TwoGun

The $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. has been greatly anticipated by the poker community. The high buy-in coupled with skills necessary to compete at many poker games resulted in a field composed primarily of well-known professionals.

The poker games comprising the H.O.R.S.E. event were limit hold'em, limit Omaha hi-lo, limit Razz, limit seven-card stud, limit seven-card stud hi-lo. The final table of this event was played different. Instead of the mixed game, only no-limit hold'em was played.

As expected, the final table of this year's inaugural H.O.R.S.E. event was a who's who of the poker world. Familiar faces included Doyle Brunson, Chip Reese, Andy Bloch, T.J. Cloutier, and Phil Ivey.

In the end, Chip Reese came out with the bracelet, defeating Andy Bloch heads-up. Reese received just under $1.8 million for his impressive victory, with Bloch taking home just over $1 million, and Ivey (who placed third) coming away with a little over $600k.

The event had 143 entries, resulting in a total prize pool of $6,864,000.
