2006 WSOP Event #39: $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Championship

WSOP, 2006-08-01, by Ozone

It's official; the poker boom is going nowhere. This year's WSOP Main Event drew an astounding 8,773 entrants. The expected first place prize will be over 12,000,000. Joe Hachem, the champion of last year's event, has just as good of a chance as any to claim this massive first place prize. He sits near the top of the leaderboard with 86,950 in chips.

The top twelve finishers will win at least one million dollars. The chipleader, Hung Tran, will go into day two with 177,000. Other noteable chipstacks include; Darrell "Gigabet" Dicken (95,000), Allen Cunningham (77,000), Ted Forrest (57,000), Robert Varkonyi (55,000), and Freddy Deeb (54,000).

Unfortunately only one regular member of the PokerTips Forums moved on to day two. Kim Norman Rixecker, aka "2muchMONEY", ended day one with a chip stack of 18,000.

Noteable bust-outs included Phil Hellmuth, Dan Harrington, Doyle Brunson, and Johnny Chan.
