2006 WSOP Event #39: $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Championship

WSOP, 2006-08-09, by TwoGun

The final table of nine players of the 2006 WSOP Main Event has now been set. The chip leader remains Jamie Gold, with about 25.6 million chips. In second place is now Allen Cunningham, who had a remarkable day yesterday. Cunningham sits with about 17.7 million chips.

There is a significant dropoff between Cunningham and the rest of the field. Third with chips is Richard Lee of San Antonio, Texas, with a little less than 12 million chips. Behind him is Erik Friberg of Stockholm, with about 9.6 million chips.

Unfortunately, a pokertips interviewee will not be the 2006 Main Event Champion. Eric "Rizen" lynch busted out at 24th place, taking home $494,797. Other notable bustouts include Prahlad Friedman, one of the best no-limit cash game players in the world.

In other Main Event news, 18th place bustout David Einhorn has pledged to donate all $659,730 of his winnings to Parkinson's research. Einhorn is on the board of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, and he pledged before the Main Event started to donate anything he won in the event to the organization. He is making good on his promise and donating a hefty check to the organization.
