WPT Season 5: Legends of Poker $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em

WPT, 2006-08-31, by Ozone

The first World Poker Tour (WPT) event since the conclusion of the WSOP kicked off this week in Los Angeles, California at the Bicycle Casino. A strong field of 466 entrants gathered to battle for the $1.5 million dollar first place prize. The final table was stocked with pros Scotty Nguyen and Hoyt Corkins; neither of whom are unfamiliar with the WPT final table spotlight.

In the end, all of this talent was no match for a young player named Joe Pelton. Pelton, who prior to this event had a mere $23,000 in lifetime winnings, defeated Frankie O'Dell heads up to capture the championship. Hoyt Corkins settled for $381,000 and 3rd place. Scotty Nguyen took 6th place which netted him $123,000.

Kevin O'Donnell, who finished 6th at this exact event last year, impressively made another final table appearance and finished in 4th place. The World Poker Tour's next stop is in Atlantic City, New Jersey for the Borgata Poker Open in mid-September.
