WPT Season 5: Borgata Poker Open $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em

WPT, 2006-09-21, by TwoGun

The Borgata Casino drew 504 hopefuls to Atlantic City for the $10,000 buy-in Borgata Poker Open. Mark Newhouse, a 21 year old from North Carolina, entered the final table with more than half the chips in play. When play reached heads-up, Floridian Chris McCormack found himself with a 2:1 chip lead over Newhouse. However, with $1,520,000 on the line, Newhouse remained composed and chipped away at his opponent until the tournament was his.

McCormack earned $802,000 for second place. Poker author David Sklansky made the TV final table and finished in 3rd place to win $419,000. With a prize pool over $5,000,000, this tournament was the richest in Atlantic City's history.

The WPT heads to Las Vegas in October for the Festa Al Lago at Bellagio.
