WCOOP Event #18: $2,600 No-Limit Hold'em Championship
Online Tournaments, 2006-10-02, by Ozone
In hindsight, PokerStars was conservative with their guarantee of a $3,000,000 prize pool for the World Championships of Online Poker (WCOOP) Main Event. The event drew 2,510 entrants. At $2,600 apiece, the prize pool reached a staggering $6,275,000 which set a record for the largest prize pool in online poker history.
The scheduled payouts had a whopping $1,157,737 going to first place. Second was scheduled to win $632,520. The actual payouts were altered when the final six players all decided to make a deal that left even the lowest paid of the group a massive $353,000 payout for a one-day tournament.
The player who eventually wound up with all of the chips was none other than professional poker player J.C. Tran, who plays as "area23JC" on PokerStars.
