WPT Season Five: Festa al Lago $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em
WPT, 2006-10-23, by TwoGun
Andreas Walnum used to be anything but a known name in the poker world. That changed at this week's Festa al Lago tournament at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Walnum beat out a strong field of 433 to win the most recent WPT title, along with a cool million dollars.
Completing an all-European heads-up finish, Dutch player Steve Wong capped off a great series of tournaments with a $540,000 second place payday. Earlier in the Festa al Lago series, Wong beat out a field of 102 in a $5,000 buy-in event.
Third place went to another young player, Joe Pelton. Already a winner on the tour this year, Pelton had to settle for a $292,000 consolation prize for coming up just short of a second victory. Another winner on this year's circuit, Can Kim Hua, finished 6th to win $83,000.
The next event on the World Poker Tour started today in Canada and will crown a winner on Thursday.
