Anti-Online Gambling Legislator Loses Re-Election Bid
Law, 2006-11-08, by Ozone
In what was a common theme during the US elections on Tuesday, Republican Congressman Jim Leach lost his seat to a Democrat. The online gambling world is familiar with Leach as the sponsor of the House bill that ultimately became the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.
After being a member of Congress for 30 years, Leach lost a close vote to Cornell College professor David Loebsack. In his concession speech, Leach said he told his family years ago that he would have one thing to say when his political career came to an end, "This is the happiest day of my life. It's as if a burden has been lifted."
