WPT Season #5: World Poker Finals $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em
WPT, 2006-11-18, by Ozone
This week the Foxwoods Resort Casino, home of the world's largest brick and mortar poker room, hosted the World Poker Finals. Kathy Liebert and Mimi Tran, both among the best female players in the game, rose to the top of the male-dominated field of 609. It was the first time in World Poker Tour history that more than one female qualified for the televised final table of six.
Fighting for a first place prize of $1.7 million, the ladies were no match for 22 year old Nenad Medic. The Canadian became one of the youngest WPT millionaires after defeating Floridian E.G. Harvin. The $904,000 second place payday for Harvin was bittersweet after he knocked out every participant at the final table, except, of course, Medic.
Mimi Tran's 3rd place finish tacked on $472,000 to her career winnings. Kathy Liebert finished 5th which paid $257,000.
