WPT Season #5: PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $8,000 No-Limit Hold'em

WPT, 2007-01-11, by Ozone

From a standpoint of entrants, the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure is the most popular event on the World Poker Tour. This year the tournament drew 937 players, many of them online qualifiers, to the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. When the final table of six players was set, there was just one player over the age of 24 remaining in the tournament.

Robert Mizrachi, brother of 2006 Player of the Year Michael "The Grinder", was the elder statesman at the final table. He yielded to youth and made a 4th place exit that paid $409,000. Ryan Daut, a 22 year old graduate student from New Jersey, made his first cash in a live tournament in this event by winning $1,535,000 for first place.

Also with his first cash in a major tournament, 21 year old Issac Haxton won $861,000 for second place. Coming off of an impressive showing at the last WPT series, "Zee" Justin Bonomo nearly made another final table, but had to settle for 11th place in this event. Notables finishing in the money were reigning champion Steve Paul Ambrose, Daniel Negreanu, and Victor Ramdin.

Participants of the World Poker Tour will not get much time to relax at home. The World Poker Open in Tunica, Mississippi starts in ten days.
