Aussie Millions Prelim Event: $100,000 (AUD) No-Limit/Pot-Limit Hold'em

Tournaments, 2007-01-13, by Ozone

Australia's most popular poker tournament takes place next week. Several of the game's top pros make an annual trip Down Under to play in the $10,000 (AUD) Aussie Millions Main Event. With so many well funded players hanging around the casino, the tournament organizers host a $100,000 (AUD) preliminary event. In last year's $100k event, John Juanda bested a field of 10 for the winner-take-all money.

This year the tournament nearly doubled its number of entrants. Eighteen players, nearly all of them recognizable names to a casual poker fan, paid the buy-in that converts to roughly $79,000 (USD). When play reached heads up, two well known Vegas-based professionals were left to battle for the $1,000,000 (AUD) first place prize.

Ultimately seven-time WSOP bracelet winner Erik Seidel had to settle for the $550,000 (AUD) consolation prize. His younger counterpart Erick Lindgren reigned supreme in this event. Business man and high stakes gambler Masaaki Kagawa won $250,000 (AUD) for third place.

The Main Event at the Aussie Millions kicks off tomorrow.
