WPT Season #5: World Poker Open $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em

WPT, 2007-01-26, by Ozone

At the Five Diamond World Poker Classic last December, Daniel Negreanu nearly added another WPT win to his resume with a 3rd place finish. It took "Kid Poker" just a matter of weeks to land himself at another televised WPT final table. Again, the result was less than perfect in Negreanu's mind.

The Gold Strike Casino in Tunica, Mississippi is known for the location of the smallest World Poker Tour field each year. This year's World Poker Open drew a mere 294 players, over 600 fewer than the WPT event held in the Bahamas earlier this month. Battling for a $913,000 first place payday, Negreanu fell to local player Brian Sumner. For Sumner, the first major tournament cash in his poker career came by winning a WPT event.

Two poker pros already familiar with the WPT spotlight, Kido Pham and J.C. Tran, finished 5th and 6th, respectively. The WPT's busy schedule keeps on rolling. The Borgata Poker Classic in Atlantic City is already in full swing with 570 players. A winner will be crowned on January 30th.
