Politics, 2007-02-18, by Ozone
The poker industry now has a former senator lobbying on its behalf. Alfonse D'Amato, who represented the state of New York for three terms in the US Senate from 1981-1999, has been named the chairman of the Poker Players Alliance (PPA). The newly formed PPA has 140,000 members in the United States.
Since losing his Senate seat in 1998, D'Amato has maintained a public profile in Washington. During his tenure in the Senate, he is said to have hosted a regular Thursday night poker game in his office.
