WSOP Circuit Event: Harrah's Rincon $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em

WSOP, 2007-02-24, by Ozone

Peter Feldman made a small bit of poker history this week. He joined Chris "Jesus" Ferguson as just the second man to win more than one WSOP Circuit event. Last May, Feldman bested a field of 170 to win $532,000 at the Harrah's New Orleans Poker Challenge. This week he plowed through a 181 player field for a $280,000 score.

In each of the past two years, the Harrah's Rincon main event had a buy-in of $10,000. This year the price was lowered to $5,000. This seems to have rendered many of the game's top players disinterested while, at the same time, piquing the interest of amateur satellite players. Canadian player David Matthew, who won nearly $2,000,000 at last year's WPT championship for finishing in second place, repeated a runner-up showing at this event for a hefty $147,000.

One time holder of the "youngest player ever to win a WSOP bracelet" title, Gavin Griffin, finished in 3rd place for $86,000. Shane "Shaniac" Schleger won $43,000 for his 6th place finish.

Next month, Caesar's Atlantic City is hosting a $5,000 buy-in Circuit event.
